The EX265 was a part of the class-winning RML squad's MG Lola sports prototype project between 2003 and 2008. Homologated as the MG Lola EX264, the car was powered by a development of the XP-21 AER turbocharged four-cylinder unit that successfully took RML AD Group to an LMP2 class win at Le Mans in 2006, and the LMP2 team and drivers’ titles in the Le Mans Series in 2007. The car was given a new lease of life in 2010, when it returned to the Le Mans Series LMP2 class in the hands of Team RLR. In 2011 the car was powered by a new Judd 'HK' engine based on a production BMW 4.0 litre V8, noted for its low weight and high specific power output in road going form.
