Stobart Stars Stroll Through Sport Relief Mile

The Stobart M-Sport Ford Rally Team chalked up a double podium finish before WRC Rally Mexico even began when co-driver Scott Martin and driver Matthew Wilson finished first and third respectively in the Sport Relief Mile charity run on Thursday March 4.

The Cumbrian duo pride themselves on their physical preparation for rallying, and their hard work showed in the high-altitude of León as they powered through the 1.5km street stage ahead of a 25-strong field of Ford World Rally Championship team members.

Martin and Wilson were split by BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team driver Jari-Matti Latvala who claimed second place in the race, held in the baking Mexican heat with temperatures reaching 30˚C.

Stobart team-mates Henning Solberg and Ilka Minor also completed the run, which is expected to raise in excess of £600 in donations from the rally team’s members and supporters.

You can see how the WRC stars got on in the Rally Mexico highlights programme, broadcast globally from Sunday 6 March.

Stobart M-Sport Ford co-driver Scott Martin said:
“It was really good fun but it was hard too. You notice the difference in altitude as you have to work a lot harder than you do compared to running back home in the UK. It was nice to finish ahead of Matt and I’ll be quick to remind him of that for the rest of the rally weekend! Hopefully we can raise a really good sum of money for a great cause like Sport Relief from the event.”

What is Sport Relief?
In 2010, Sport Relief is raising money to help people living unimaginably tough lives both in the UK and across the world. Three major issues are being highlighted this year – Street and Working Children, Malaria and local projects in the UK. Money raised helps to provide safe places for children to live, get nutritious meals, an education and supports them as they cope with their difficult lives living on the streets.
