British Car-maker Bucks the Trend

One of the UK’s leading success stories in the automotive industry plans to defy the current economic climate and expand its operations on the back of strong demand.

In 2005 Cornwall-based Adrenaline Motorsport started selling kit cars from a barn with only £20,000 funding. Since then the specialist performance car manufacturer has turned over in excess of £1 million and has exported its vehicles to North America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The company’s flagship model, the Murtaya, has won a string of internationally recognised industry awards and now comes in kit form or ready-built production specification. Adrenaline Motorsport has also been included in the Department of Trade and Industry’s Passport To Export Scheme as an exemplar of how British SME’s can successfully win international trade.

Adrenaline Motorsport currently has eight full-time employees over two sites, in St Columb Major and Padstow, and sources as many parts and components as possible for the car locally in order to support other local Cornish businesses. While major players in the automotive sector have recently been experiencing trading difficulties, Adrenaline Motorsport has seen a surge in interest in its affordable Murtaya sportscar. The directors of the company are determined to expand the company to meet this demand and create more highly-skilled jobs in the Cornwall area, and are currently seeking new investment to put their plans into action.

Adrenaline Motorsport managing director Neil Yates said: “We are a young, ambitious and forward-thinking company that has managed to break into a very tough market place in a very tough time, establish a solid reputation and sell cars all over the world. We are delighted we now have a large forward order book for the Murtaya, and we are looking to attract the investment required to make the next step in our growth as a company. We have identified new premises to move into and are looking to open discussions with potential funding providers. Not only do we hope to provide more employment for local people and support to other local businesses through our supply chain, but also some positive news and hope for others that exciting things can still be achieved despite the problems in the economy.”
