Academy Co-Driver Enjoys German Jaunt
One of the UK’s top young co-drivers enjoyed a successful outing in his first World Rally Championship round in Germany.
MSA British Rally Academy member Seb Marshall co-drove for Fiesta Sporting Trophy International competitor Richard Moore as part of a deal to allow the country’s best young co-drivers to gain more experience at the top level.
Moore was looking for a high quality co-driver to help him on the WRC rounds, and decided to approach The Inside Line, organisers of the MSA’s training programme, and offer a seat in Germany and also Catalunya to some of the brightest prospects in the sport.
The pairing of Moore and Marshall fared extremely well in Rally Deutschland, putting in a consistent performance on the tricky tarmac stages to finish fifth of the Fiesta Sporting Trophy International runners and sixth in the N3 class.
The event gave the duo the opportunity to experience driving on asphalt with the added challenge of difficult cuts and gravel pulled out onto the stages. It was also a good chance to build their knowledge of tyre wear and the quality of opposition at WRC level.
The result puts Moore a creditable seventh in the FSTi championship and will stand him in good stead for his next FSTi event in Spain.
Another member of the MSA British Rally Academy will get the chance to join Moore in Catalunya – with Ford world championship team principal Malcolm Wilson choosing the co-driver who he judges to have made the most progress during the season.
